Leadership

Dexter J. Singleton most recently directed The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity at TheatreSquared. He is a director, producer, activist, and educator from Detroit, MI. He is currently the Director of New Play Development at TheatreSquared and the Executive Artistic Director of CCT.

As a director, Dexter’s work has been seen at TheatreSquared, Pittsburgh Public Theatre, San Diego Repertory Theatre, Playhouse on Park, Connecticut Repertory Theatre, University of Michigan, University of Arkansas, Long Wharf Theatre, and many others. Recent credits include Blood At The Root, Kill Move Paradise, Sweat, Skeleton Crew, North of Forbes, Baton, The Mountaintop and Topdog/Underdog. He is a member of the Artistic Ensemble at Long Wharf Theatre and a former Visiting Assistant Professor of Performance at the University of Connecticut.

He was recently awarded the 2021 BroadwayWorld Regional Award for Best Director of a Streaming Production for his work on Kill Move Paradise. He is also the recipient of the 2019 Artistic Excellence Award from the State of Connecticut and Distinguished Director of a Play for Black Book from The Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival.

Jenny Nelson

Associate Artistic Director

Jenny Nelson is an educator and director from Arizona. She is currently the Senior Director of Programs at Neighborhood Music School and Associate Artistic Director at CCT. She has taught at several universities including City College of New York in the Graduate Program for Theatre Professionals and Educators. She has worked as an artist and educator at several theatres including Long Wharf Theatre, The Shubert Theatre, and Yale Repertory. Past directing credits include: Fairview, Barbecue, Pass Over, The Royale, Sunset Baby, Milk Like Sugar, We Are Proud To Present…, Gidion’s Knot, Merry Wives of Windsor, Skin of Our Teeth, and Medea. Jenny is also an accomplished pianist and songwriter as well as a professional director.

She received her B.S. and M.A. in Theatre from the University of Arizona and a second M.A. in Education from Fairfield University.
